Toronto To Have Four Light Rail Lines

Hopefully, Toronto sticks to this plan of Light Rail Transit. The main opposition is coming from both suburbanites and the Mayor of Toronto, who believes that transit should be built underground and hiddenFrom most of the comments most say there will be an increase of idling vehicles. However, if we are making transit accesible to more areas in the GTA there should be a decrease of vehicular traffic and an increase in transit users. We still need to move away from this homo automotivis (car-centric) society to a more of a pedestrian-friendly society.

Could Pedestrian-Orientated Cities Reduce Obesity?

Great article/interview done on the lack of the population in the United States that are not walking/cycling in their communities but instead using automobiles. The article does state that there is a link between our car-centric society and the obesity epidemic in the United States.

Does this mean moving toward a more pedestrian-orientated communities would both reduce obesity and the pressures on the environment?
